The One Where I Photographed the Model

I never dreamed of being a photographer but Ryan is constantly encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. This summer Ryan asked me to help him set up an amazing new collaboration for a photoshoot with a Fuller Bust Model/Advocate. At first I was intimidated by the thought of reaching out because, if you know me in real life, you know I don’t have a lot to bring to the Fuller Bust “table”. HAHA! But after some amazing back and forth discussion the date was set for the collaboration in the beautiful Drumheller valley.

While Ryan is our main photographer, my primary role is stay-at-home mom and helping Ryan with the admin side of the photography business. Having two young kids and no consistent childcare doesn’t allow for me to participate in photoshoots, but after some rearranging the boys were shipped off to their grandparents for the weekend. Now it was going to be my turn to play photographer for the day!

We started out the photoshoot in Dorothy, getting to know each other and getting comfortable. It took me a bit to figure out my role and job for the day. If you have ever spent time with Ryan in the past, then you know that he has this amazing energy about him. He makes everyone feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. I chose to take a more back row approach. While he focused on being the main photographer, I focused on attempting to capture different angles. As the photoshoot progressed I was able to gain some confidence and was even able to capture a couple of really good photos. Check out my favourite!

The Fuller Bust Model/Advocate that we were working with was incredibly confident in front of the camera and so easy to work with. We were able to take her to a few different locations, showcasing some of the most beautiful and intimate spots in the Drumheller valley. Valley and Hill Photography does mostly outdoor photography, and it has always been Ryan’s goal to use the beautiful outdoor landscape to help enhance the clientele we are working with. This was definitely the case with this photoshoot!

What was my favorite part of the whole day!? Getting the opportunity to be creative and work with an incredible woman who is advocating for fuller bust women and helping them gain comfortability and support in how they dress their body. While I cannot personally relate to having a fuller bust body I can understand the discomfort that might come along with trying to find supportive undergarments. After we started to post photos from this photoshoot, on our feed, we had a friend reach out and thank us for working with this Fuller Bust Model/Advocate because, as a fuller bust woman, she was so excited to learn how to dress her body in more comfortable ways. If you are interested in learning more about dressing and supporting a fuller bust body make sure you check out Saterra on Instagram @fullerbustbestie. You will not be disappointed, I promise!

And what did I take away from the day, you might ask? I gained some confidence in my photography abilities! Getting the opportunity to participate in this collaboration and seeing some of the photos I was able to capture has given me the desire to try again. The goal over the next year is to work on my photography skills and start to second shoot for Ryan when needed. And maybe, just maybe host my own mini sessions!

Here at Valley and Hill Photography we love to do collaborations. Working with other small businesses, models and advocates allows us to capture and share content that we might not normally have the opportunity to. It allows us to work with different people and be creative in new ways. We welcome any and all collaborations!
