This is us!

We are Ryan and Carley, the faces behind Valley & Hill Photography. We have known each other since we were 7 and 9 years old. We have been married for over 10 years, and have 3 beautiful children and one fuzzy chocolate brown cockapoo together! We have called Drumheller home for over 10 years now and we are still constantly in awe of the beautiful landscape!

Ryan’s main job is in healthcare and it was his career that initially brought us to Drumheller but the beautiful landscape, the wonderful people, and the abundance of things to do is what keeps us in the valley. We love it here!

Ryan is our main photographer and has a passion for capturing weddings, family memories and beautiful landscapes. Ryan has always dreamed of taking photos for National Geographic magazine and has been taking landscape and nature photography for many years. It wasn’t until we moved to Drumheller and Carley threatened to sell Ryan’s photography gear, if he didn’t use it more, that Ryan decided to pursue his passion further. While working in healthcare Ryan has developed a love of people but has also witnessed people during the hardest and most intimate moments of their lives.

Valley & Hill Photography was created due to Ryan’s passion for people and photography but also due to his need to capture the good and happy times in other peoples lives. There’s nothing Ryan loves more then to capture a genuine smile or a twinkle in someones eye. It’s even better if those moments JUST HAPPEN to be captured during golden hour!

Carley does the social media posts and answers most of the social media messages and emails. If you have sent us a message you have most likely been chatting with Carley! Carley has taken a more backseat approach to Valley & Hill Photography over the years working mainly on social media and the website all while being a stay-at-home mom, chaos coordinator, and household CEO. She has been practising her photography skills and you will occasionally find her as a second shooter for Ryan.

We are very different but that is what makes us a great team. Same goals, different roles! Together we have passion and a fire in our bellies. We have big dreams for the future of Valley & Hill Photography and we cannot wait to see where this business takes us!

  • “I have had two very different photo shoots with V&H now, and have enjoyed my experience both times!

    I participated in a boudoir shoot with Ryan, who put a great deal of thought and consideration into the vibe of the shoot, and absolutely delivered on what I was looking for in terms of my vision for the project. Ryan asked pertinent questions to understand what I was expecting from the shoot, and used the information to guide his artistry behind the camera. He made me feel comfortable and confident during the shoot.

    Following this I did a family photo shoot with Ryan, who managed to get some stunning family photos of myself, my husband and toddler in about half hour! I was amazed at how quickly he was able to get so many good shots. He did a fantastic job providing direction and feedback to the family in order to capture what he needed quickly, which is important with subjects who have little attention span. The photos were also edited and returned to me very quickly.

    I also want to highlight Carley for her work behind the scenes, because although I didn’t work with her directly, I know she played a role in the photos that made it to my inbox and I’m very happy with all of my edits!
