Welcome
Welcome to the Blog. To start off with, I have no idea what the blog is truly going to cover, but I am sure it will be a journey nonetheless. What better place to start than with an introduction! My name is Ryan and my journey with photography has been a winding road throughout my life. From a young age I fell in love with National Geographic and how the images just leapt off the pages of the magazines. This love of imagery and wildlife drove me to ask for a camera for Christmas of 2005 and sure enough I was lucky enough to get my first Canon DLSR.
From 2005 to about 2018 I worked on my photography on and off as a hobby. In 2019 this changed when my wife, Carley, threatened to sell my gear because I wasn’t using it and it was just taking up space. So in typical Ryan fashion (I don’t like to be told what to do) I decided to go big by starting up Valley & Hill Photography and purchasing another camera body and multiple new lenses. I feel it is important for you, as the reader, to understand that I have changed my technology crazed ways and got some mint used gear instead of buying brand new like I would have done in the past.
With my new gear in hand I worked on increasing the amount I was shooting, thus trying to improve my portfolio. This is when things got a little more expensive… did I mention I love technology and expensive things? The old IMac desktop just wasn’t cutting it anymore for editing and saving my photos. So somehow I was able to convince Carley, or maybe she was just sick of listening to my whining, but either way I got her on board with my idea to build a custom PC. This baby is a dream for editing photos! I was able to build this custom PC with the most patient, amazing buddy that I met when he married one of my nursing classmates/forever friend. Now with this brand new PC with Dual monitors, one being 32 inch 4k (what can I say!? I’m a technology junkie!) I was really ready to start taking more photos and building my portfolio. The last few years I have been out getting to know wonderful clients and exploring this amazing province of Alberta that we call home. I hope you enjoy following along on this crazy adventure and please enjoy these photos that I was able to check off my bucket list.
Until next time,
Ryan
