The Wanderer
Photography has always been my favourite creative outlet. There’s something magical about coming up with an idea for a shoot, nurturing it from concept to execution, and then seeing it come alive through the lens. This spring, I was thrilled to bring to life a vision I’d been holding onto for years: capturing the beauty of the spring crocus flowers blooming in the rugged landscape of the Badlands.
The shoot was inspired by the theme of a beautiful young woman exploring her surroundings, searching for meaning and connection—a lost soul finding herself in the vast, rugged beauty of the Badlands. The crocuses symbolized hope and renewal, blooming against the odds in a stark and unyielding environment.
To pull off the look, I teamed up with a talented local makeup artist whose work perfectly complemented the vibe I envisioned. Together, we crafted a style that added depth and character to the story being told.
The day itself brought its own personality to the shoot. It was cold, windy, and overcast, which turned out to be a blessing. The moody atmosphere gave the photos a raw, emotional edge, amplifying the story we were telling. Despite the challenging weather, it became an essential part of the shoot’s identity.
As the day unfolded, we pushed ourselves creatively, capturing additional styled looks that felt like natural extensions of the main theme. Each setup added a new layer of depth and variety to the final collection of images.
Every time I take an idea and bring it to life, I’m reminded of why I love photography so much. It’s not just about capturing an image—it’s about creating a moment, weaving together emotions, and telling a story. Seeing a vision like this come together, especially with the help of amazing collaborators, is endlessly rewarding.
This shoot will always remind me of the joy that comes from taking a creative spark and letting it bloom, just like those crocuses in the Badlands.
